Ultrasonic Rhinoplasty

What Is Ultrasonic Rhinoplasty?

Ultrasonic rhinoplasty is one of the most innovative nose reshaping surgeries approved by the FDA today. Unlike traditional rhinoplasty, there is no need for your surgeon to hammer or chisel the bone. Instead, the motorized handpiece emits vibrating sound waves for precise reshaping. Ultrasonic rhinoplasty is often recommended for patients who wish to reduce a nasal hump using a more gentle technique. Typically, this surgery involves a quicker recovery period than traditional rhinoplasty. Getting connected with a board-certified surgeon is the first step toward achieving your aesthetic goals.

Candidates for Ultrasonic Rhinoplasty

To be considered for any rhinoplasty procedure, you should be at least 18 years old. A qualified surgeon can assess the appearance of your nose and provide more details about the advantages of ultrasonic rhinoplasty. Common reasons for ultrasonic rhinoplasty include:

  • Nasal hump
  • Wide nose
  • Deviated septum
  • Asymmetrical bones

How Is It Performed?

Ultrasonic rhinoplasty is an outpatient surgery performed under general anesthesia. For the procedure, an open technique must be used. This involves making an incision in the columella, the area of skin that divides the nostrils. With the bone and cartilage exposed, the surgeon uses a high-powered ultrasonic tool to precisely sculpt the nasal bones. For most patients, this results in less bruising, bleeding, and swelling than traditional rhinoplasty procedures.

About Us
What is the difference between ultrasonic rhinoplasty and traditional rhinoplasty?

During a traditional rhinoplasty, chisels and hammers are often used to reshape the nose. While this is an effective method for getting you the results you're looking for, it can cause accidental fractures to the nose, trauma to the nasal tissues, swelling, bruising, and scarring. Ultrasonic rhinoplasty uses a high-powered ultrasonic rhinoplasty tool to provide your desired results. The benefit of this method is no chisels or hammers, the opportunity to work on certain areas inside the nose selectively, and less likely injury to soft tissues.

What can I expect when recovering from ultrasonic rhinoplasty?

Ultrasonic rhinoplasty has a faster recovery time than traditional rhinoplasty (about 2 weeks compared to 6 weeks). You may notice some slight swelling; we suggest sleeping with your head raised to help reduce swelling. We will provide a variety of aftercare instructions to help you heal properly. It's important to follow these closely and ask us if you have any questions about the recovery process.

Is there anything I can't do after my ultrasonic nose reshaping?

After your ultrasonic rhinoplasty treatment, you should avoid strenuous activities such as exercising. We also suggest you avoid any other activity that could result in physical contact with your nose, such as sex or sleeping on your front. You should also avoid sun exposure as your nose may be more likely to burn after your treatment. Smoking can also delay the healing process, so we suggest avoiding smoking during this period.
