Dr. Oscar Ramirez is Board Certified in Plastic Surgery by the American Board of Plastic Surgery. He was a Fulbright high school scholar in Lima Peru. He graduated as a Physician and Surgeon from “The Major National University of San Marcos” in Lima-Peru, officially considered the oldest University in the Americas. He trained in General Surgery at Franklin Square Hospital, an affiliate of The Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Maryland then completed his Plastic Surgery Residency at the University of Pittsburgh. He did additional fellowship training in Craniofacial Surgery with world-renown Fernando Ortiz-Monasterio in Mexico City. He held academic appointments as a Clinical Instructor in Anatomy at the University of San Marcos, as a Clinical Assistant Professor at The Johns Hopkins University (for 25 years) and The University of Maryland (25 years) and is an Adjunct Clinical Professor at the Cleveland Clinic, Florida. He has been Traveling Professor of the International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery. He was also appointed Commander Consultant to the US Navy in 1995.
Dr. Ramirez is an internationally acclaimed Plastic Surgeon known for his landmark publications in reconstructive and aesthetic surgery. He is the inventor of the “Components Separation Technique” that has become the standard for abdominal wall reconstruction. He is also considered “the pioneer” in Facial Endoscopic Surgery and has advanced the art and science of aesthetic surgery in Body Contouring, Breast Reduction, Facial Implant Surgery and Rejuvenation. He has designed many surgical instruments for Plastic Surgery (Snowden Pencer, Inc. Black & Black, Synthes, Tulip Biomedical, Marina Medical etc) and several facial implants (Porex Inc.) and holds trademarks and provisional patents for some of them. He has been featured in many important newspapers and magazines such as Allure, Prevention, U.S. News, The Baltimore Sun, Warfield Business Record, Towson Times, Votre Beaute (France), Der Spiegel (Germany) and recently in Elle Magazine in Russia, Greece and Turkey. He has been recently featured in the “Passage” magazine in Azerbaijan (printed in Russian). He has been interviewed by TV stations and Newspapers in Australia, Germany, Japan, Brazil, Peru, Chile, Russia and The United States.
Dr. Ramirez devotes significant part of his professional time teaching other Plastic Surgeons. He has traveled five continents and more than 60 countries as an invited lecturer, visiting professor or to do live surgery demonstrations of his unique Plastic Surgery techniques. He has given over 1000 lectures-conferences all over the world. He is actively involved in research and teaching in his new location at Aventura-Florida and in Lima-Peru. He has been the featured speaker at the “Ramirez Advanced Facial Anatomy Workshops” held at the “Miami Anatomical Research Center” in Miami, Florida. Dr. Ramirez has written over 150 scientific articles for peer review journals, book chapters and others. He also has written several textbooks. He is guest reviewer for several Scientific Journals. He has been selected among the “2000 Outstanding Scientists of the 21st Century by Melrose Press Limited, Cambridge, England (the only Plastic Surgeon in that exclusive list). He also has been nominated many times (lately fifteen years in a row) as one the “America’s Top Doctors and Hospitals” (A Castle Connolly Guide), “America’s Top Plastic Surgeons”, a unique honor difficult to achieve.
He is a founding member of The Rhinoplasty Society and active member of many societies where he is frequently engaged in teaching: ASPS (American Society of Plastic Surgeons), ASAPS (American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery), ISAPS (International Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery), Iberolatinamerican Society of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, The Johns Hopkins Medical and Surgical Association. He is also a member of the exclusive society: the American Association of Plastic Surgeons. He is a Honorary Member of the Colombian Society of Plastic Surgeons. He was recently (July 2013) named Honorary Member of the Peruvian Society of Plastic Surgeons and Honorary Member of the Peruvian Society of General Surgeons. He has received the Gold Medal Award for his contributions in Abdominal Wall Reconstruction at the Inaugural Congress of the SOHAH (Hispanoamerican Society of Hernia) in Santiago, Chile October, 2014. He has been named one of the “Leading Physicians of the World” in 2014. Dr. Ramirez other research interest are: Facial Implant Biomaterials, Breast Implants, Stem Cell treatments, Laser liposuction and stem cell procurements. He has been involved in Anatomical Research to improve current Plastic Surgical Techniques for over 35 years.
