Andrew N. Kornstein, M.D., board certified plastic surgeon, is distinguished by his expert medical training, honors, expertise, surgical experience and long history of surgical innovations. His innate aesthetic sense provides his patients with the most natural and beautiful outcomes. He is renowned as a “revision specialist” in aesthetic procedures of the face, and is an innovator in non-invasive facial and body rejuvenation, the ever-increasing choice of patients.
Dr Kornstein understands that rhinoplasty results do not get better over time and therefore he takes the time to get it done right the first time, reflected in his low revision rate.
Dr. Kornstein graduated Phi Beta Kappa from the University of Pennsylvania where he earned his degree in Biochemical Genetics and was awarded the prestigious Distinction in Biology. He studied medicine at Cornell University Medical College, where he completed The National Institute of Health Fellowship in Nuclear Medicine and Clinical Cardiology. Dr. Kornstein was selected to join the elite Residency programs at Columbia University/St. Luke’s-Roosevelt Hospital Center, both in General Surgery and Plastic Surgery, where he continued his Fellowship training in Aesthetic Plastic Surgery and refined his aesthetic techniques.
Dr. Kornstein is Board certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery. He is an active member of the American College of Surgeons, the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, the American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery and The Rhinoplasty Society.
Dr. Kornstein first practiced in Manhattan, at his Fifth Avenue offices and American Association for Accreditation of Ambulatory Surgical Facilities (the gold standard for private surgical facilities) approved surgical facility.
In 2018, Dr. Kornstein moved his practice to Connecticut full time where he joined Split Rock Surgical Associates at The Retreat at Split Rock. The Retreat at Split Rock is recognized worldwide for its state-of-the-art surgical facility and The Split Rock Aesthetic Institute. The Retreat at Split Rock, and the adjoining Inn, is dedicated to each patient’s well-being, safety, and care, all within a private and elegant setting.
Dr Kornstein is licensed in Connecticut, New York, Florida and California and has offices in Greenwich and Wilton, CT.
Early in his training as a plastic surgery resident at the prestigious Columbia University/St. Luke’s-Roosevelt Hospital, Dr. Kornstein worked with Sydney Coleman, M.D., innovator in fat grafting techniques. He became his teacher and mentor. Because of this relationship, Dr. Kornstein acquired exceptional knowledge of facial aging with respect to bone and soft tissue changes. He then helped develop techniques to reverse these changes using hand-harvested adipose derived stem cells (fat cells) from one’s own body.
As the recognized expert in this technique, he wrote the chapter on “Using Fat Cells for Rejuvenation” in the prestigious Encyclopedia of Aesthetic Rejuvenation. In April of 2014, he presented his findings on fat grafting’s long term structural influence on the face and nose to The Rhinoplasty Society’s National Meeting. His paper was awarded First Prize.
In 2011, Dr. Kornstein’s research into non-surgical anti-aging treatments brought him to Ultherapy®, focus ultrasound typically employed to tighten and rejuvenate the skin as a byproduct of its ability to rejuvenate and tighten collagen. Ultherapy® recognized his extraordinary work with the Award of Distinction and invited him to join their advisory panel.
Dr. Kornstein’s harnessed the Ultherapy® technology to enhance healing after rhinoplasty are published in prestigious peer reviewed journal, Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery Journal. The Rhinoplasty Society featured Dr. Kornstein’s breakthrough work at their Annual Symposium 2012. His pioneering work on the use of Ulthera® to remove silicone injections from the lips and face, a challenging procedure but urgently necessary when silicone is inappropriately used, was also published in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery Journal.
Dr Kornstein offers (reversible) injectable rhinoplasty as an alternative to surgical procedures and for minor revisions as well as a means of preoperatively assessing and discussing the changes being entertained.
Dr. Kornstein approaches his role as a surgeon with his patients’ global well-being first and foremost. As a fundamental part of this dedication to patient safety, he advocates “in-house” surgeries (those performed in private, accredited, surgical centers) as the preferred, safer and more comfortable alternative to hospitals. ABC NEWS featured Dr. Kornstein in a special segment that discussed his patient safety expertise and this preference.
Dr. Kornstein has several patents pending in his own name for innovative approaches to solving patients’ issues, specifically IVIVI which he routinely employs for accelerated postoperative facial and nasal healing and hair growth; a modification to Strattice™ for breast implant surgery, and refined designs to the instruments used with CoolSculpting®.
